Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
